sailor bracelet :: multicolor
These sailor bracelets are made with colorful non-fading (quick dry!) nylon stretchy shock cord. Made to be worn daily, they go on and come off easily, fitting most adult wrists. Bracelets measure approximately 9.5" around or about 2.5" across the center and are tied off with traditional waxed linen.
These multicolored bracelets are four strand, making them slightly wider than the original sailor bracelet (three strand.)
These bracelets will NOT shrink to fit tightly like the cotton rope bracelets of the 1980's, nor will they stay wet all day if you wear them in the shower or swimming! The colorful shock cord has slight stretch. On a smaller wrist they will be more like a bangle, and on a larger wrist they will fit more snug.
This ancient knot dates back to early history and examples can be found as early as 300 AD. The knot became known as the sailor bracelet because seafarers would give them to their sweetheart as a good luck charm and a symbol of eternal love to be worn until they reunited. They are also known as the Turks knot, infinity knot, and the love knot.
Each bracelet is handcrafted with love by my seafaring husband, Steve.
